When Mama Wept

When she was two, she decided one night that she wanted out of the crib.  She would not sleep. She cried until Mama took her out. Every night she cried and wept and wailed until Mama took her out. One night Mama did not come. That night she cried until exhaustion put her down. Next night she cried until exhaustion put her down.  Every night she cried until exhaustion put her down–until the night, when her wailing slowed for breath, she heard Mama weeping in the other room. And then she laid her head in peaceful ease and slept.
